Habibi Funk is excited to share its foray into contemporary works with a heady dose of danceable grooves, courtesy of Beirut’s multi-instrumental producer Charif Megarbane, also known as the prolific Cosmic Analog Ensemble.
“Tayyara Warak” is Charif’s 1st EP with his own name outside Hisstology Records. Title track evokes Beirut chaos, taxi rides through the city w/ soft, nostalgic melody and fuzzed-out rhythm sections move like city birds flying through hectic car horns. 'Commencer La-Bas,’ expansive and narrative, mixes highlife and orchestral strings - new beginnings from exile and exodus.'Flat Foot' ends on a lighter “foot” with a hip-hop-tinged groove and a descending melodic motif, like walking down a staircase in wet flip-flops.
Keep your ears open for more Charif in the new year.
Rebajada is a slowed down and lowered in sound cumbia, which on the one hand is much more danceable and on the other gives a close look at the complexity of the genre. A capital discovery of a phenomenal scene taking shape over two decades.
